Central Elementary is located in Gulfport, MS, and quite possibly one of the oldest elementary schools on the Gulf Coast. As a part of Giving Tuesday in 2016, the Bannister Foundation was proud to donate $10,000 to a school nearly in desperation.

$5,000 of the total donation went towards refurbishing the floors of the elementary school stage.  Refinishing the stage floors was crucial to the arts and music program at Central Elementary. Bannister Foundation hopes to have the project completed by Summer 2017.

The other $5,000 donation went to the school's library so that they could purchase new books to help replace missing or older, damaged books. Mrs. Johnson, the librarian, let us know that they were able to purchase almost 500 new books for the library.  Watch the video to the right to see what Mrs. Johnson had to say about the Bannister Foundation donation.

Mrs. Johnson told us that while the students visit the library, they learn more than just library research skills. Students at Central Elementary are also taught internet safety skills, basic coding, as well as other unique technological skills.
